Bekmørtnans came to life a dark and windy January morning. We think that the name describes a dark blue, almost black velvet darkness. Our cattery name was recognized by FIFe in February 2007.
We want to specialize in breeding healthy, good-looking balinese. Because the gene pool of the Balinese is so small, we try to broaden it by using both Siamese, Siamese variants, oriental shorthair and oriental shorthair variants. Because of this we will from time to time have both Siamese variants and oriental short hair variants for sale.
Our main goal is to bring forth healthy and strong cats, both mentally and physically. That leads us to test our cats regularly for FIV/FeLV. They will also be tested for PRA, which is a hereditary desease that causes blindness. We have joined Pawpeds health program for PRA. After this we want our kittens to be as close to the FIFe standard as possible. A bonus will of course be if the kittens will bring on Igor Karkaroffs beautiful, deep blue eye colour.
